Anthony Davis is one of the most-gifted centers in the modern game, but there is little doubt that the consistent injuries have resulted in his career never quite reaching the heights he looks destined for whenever he has a continued stretch of games. It has also resulted in a longstanding reputation as one of the most injury-prone stars in the league.
So much so that Jeff Teague is willing to bet money that AD will not play anywhere close to the 82 games he wants to play next season, per a post on X by NBA Courtside. Teague claimed that he was willing to put as much as a 100 grand betting that Davis will once again fall comprehensively short of that mark.
“I got “a hundred bands” that he don’t play all 82 games. I got anything under 70. He won’t qualify for no awards,” he said.
Teague is undoubtedly confident in his statement, and well, the history supports him. Since arriving in the NBA as the No. 1 pick of the 2012 draft, AD has played a maximum of 76 regular season games across a campaign, which happened back during the 2023-24 season. He also played a total of 75 games in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
However, his recent game logs have been hugely problematic, with Davis playing just 20 games last season and managing 51 games across his time with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks in 2024-25. Hence, he has acquired a wide portfolio of injuries in recent years and has never played all 82 games across the regular season in his career.
The Washington Wizards star only recently claimed that he wanted to play all 82 games next season. However, that appears to be a case of ‘aiming for the stars and setting for the clouds.’ AD will be well aware that his injury record means even remaining fit for vast stretches of the season will be seen as a huge step forward, especially now at the age of 33. AD has also been linked to a trade to the Golden State Warriors, who were rumored to be doing their bit to sweeten the deal for LeBron James to join them. As things stand, however, that looks highly unlikely and Davis appears set to remain in Washington.
As for Teague however, we will not be surprised if he actually ends up putting up a bet, considering the confidence he expressed in his take.
