Hollywood royalty, groundbreaking innovators, and trailblazing leaders are officially wearing pink and green. This week, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, welcomed six extraordinary women into its distinguished sisterhood as honorary members during the organization’s 72nd Boule in Las Vegas. Among this year’s celebrated initiates are acclaimed actresses Pauletta Pearson Washington, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Salli Richardson-Whitfield, whose decades of excellence on stage and screen have helped shape Black entertainment and culture.

Joining the trio are world-renowned immunologist Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett-Helaire, whose groundbreaking research played a pivotal role in the development of a COVID-19 vaccine; Silicon Valley trailblazer and investor Merline Saintil; and Robin Washington, president and chief operating and financial officer of Salesforce. Together, the six women represent the very best of Black excellence across entertainment, science, technology, and corporate leadership.

Their induction recognizes careers defined by achievement, service, and a commitment to uplifting communities—qualities that align with Alpha Kappa Alpha’s legacy of cultivating leaders and changemakers. As the nation’s first historically Black sorority continues to celebrate women making an impact around the world, this year’s honorary class stands as another powerful reminder that Black excellence knows no limits.

The sorority’s International President and CEO, Danette Anthony Reed, described the women as “leaders whose professional accomplishments are matched by their unwavering commitment to service.”

“I truly believe these exemplary women have achieved great distinction, acclaim, and success in their professional and personal lives,” Reed said in a statement. “Now, we are deeply honored to embrace them as sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.”

Pauletta Pearson Washington has built a career rooted in artistry, philanthropy, and service. While many recognize her as an accomplished actress and the wife of Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington, her impact extends far beyond Hollywood. Her acting credits include Reasonable Doubt, Genius, She’s Gotta Have It, Wilma, and Beloved.

A classically trained pianist and vocalist since the age of 10, Washington studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts, The Juilliard School, and the University of North Texas. Off the stage and screen, she is a dedicated philanthropist, serving as a founding executive member of The Brain Trust at Cedars-Sinai, which raises awareness and funding for brain tumor and central nervous system research. She also serves on the Board of Trustees at Spelman College.

Spelman College is something Washington shares with fellow honorary initiate LaTanya Richardson Jackson. The acclaimed actress, producer, and Spelman alumna—who is also the wife of Morehouse College graduate Samuel L. Jackson—has enjoyed a celebrated career spanning film, television, and Broadway.

Jackson is perhaps best known to HBCU fans for her unforgettable portrayal of Paulina in The Fighting Temptations—so it’s safe to say she already knows a thing or two about bylaws. Beyond that fan-favorite role, her impressive résumé includes Juice, Malcolm X, Losing Isaiah, Freedomland, Luke Cage, and Grey’s Anatomy.

Her talents extend well beyond the screen. Jackson has become one of Broadway’s most respected performers, appearing in productions such as Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, A Raisin in the Sun, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Purpose. Her performance in A Raisin in the Sun earned her a Tony Award nomination, while her recent work continues to cement her status as one of the industry’s most accomplished actresses.

Like Washington and Jackson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield has built a career defined by versatility. Best known to many audiences for her role as Angela in A Low Down Dirty Shame opposite Keenen Ivory Wayans, Richardson-Whitfield has appeared in numerous film and television projects, including Gargoyles, Eureka, Black Dynamite, NCIS, and Being Mary Jane.

While her acting career alone would be enough to earn recognition, Richardson-Whitfield has also become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after television directors. She has directed episodes of hit series including Scandal, Luke Cage, Love Is…, All American, The Chi, and Black-ish, further expanding her influence behind the camera and helping shape the next generation of television storytelling.
