The Toronto Blue Jays are on the MLB trade deadline watch, with the club being speculated to take a seller’s stance amid a tough 2026 campaign.
The reigning American League champions entered Tuesday last in the AL East standings with a 46-54 record (11.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays) and have lost three of their four games since the MLB All-Star break.
With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. surprisingly struggling to find his power at the plate, the Blue Jays have simply not played as well as they had in recent seasons. Still, baseball insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic says he’d be “surprised” if Toronto sells at the deadline.

“The Blue Jays, it’s kind of the same thing, haven’t hit all year, and Vlad Jr. still does not have a home run at Rogers Centre. No home runs at home this season for Vlad Jr. It’s hard to believe that that’s possible, and it’s not just on him,” Rosenthal said on Foul Territory, comparing Toronto with the San Diego Padres’ situation.
“They’ve missed Addison Barger. They’ve had Alejandro Kirk out for a while, come back not that good or not that good offensively. They just haven’t clicked the way they have in the past. So I could see them selling too, and it would be surprising, and maybe things change over the next 11 days in each case, because we’ve seen. Just look at the Red Sox as an example. It’s really two weeks that this has happened over. Before this 14-game streak, no one was saying, ‘Wow, the Red Sox.’ So it can change really quickly.”
It will be interesting to see whether the Blue Jays will be able to turn things around soon to give their playoff chances a spark. They can start in their current Rays series, though; they already lost the opener on Monday, 7-1.
