If Anthony Edwards ever requests a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Atlanta Hawks will be ready.

The Atlanta Hawks have had a great summer. They drafted Kingston Flemings, they re-signed CJ McCollum, and in two separate deals with the Oklahoma City Thunder, they landed Lu Dort and Aaron Wiggins. They have built an elite supporting cast, and sneakily, they have set themselves up for a potential Anthony Edwards trade saga the Minnesota Timberwolves will hate.

Edwards isn’t going anywhere right now. Minnesota just traded for LaMelo Ball to help him out. But there have been plenty of under-the-radar rumblings about Edwards’ potential desire to play in Atlanta over the years. So, if at any point in the next few years Edwards asks out, the Hawks are in a perfect position to trade for him.

Atlanta has set itself up perfectly to take in a superstar. Adding a guy like Edwards to the mix could help put them over the top in the Eastern Conference.

Hawks are ready for Anthony Edwards trade if he ever asks out

Again, Edwards isn’t going anywhere right now. He’s firmly planted in Minnesota, and the Wolves have had a ton of success with him leading the way for the past few years.

They’ve made multiple Western Conference finals appearances, and with Ball alongside him in their new backcourt, they’ll have a chance to compete again in the coming years.

However, if the Wolves continue to fail to get over the hump – especially having to go up against the Thunder and San Antonio Spurs – perhaps Edwards could eventually ask out.

If that happens, the Hawks will be ready. They don’t have any awful contracts on their books, and heading into next year, they have a ton of expiring money.

They can continue to roll over that expiring money into new contracts, all of which should be tradable assets in case a superstar becomes available on the trade market.

It doesn’t even have to be Edwards. They could go after anyone. But Edwards’ connection to Atlanta is too obvious not to discuss. It would make a ton of sense for Edwards to want to join the Hawks.

Edwards leaving would be a complete and utter disaster for the Timberwolves. It’s something they are desperately trying to avoid by putting new talent around him at all times.

Unfortunately, the West is a brutal place to play. And there’s a real world where the Timberwolves never make the Finals with Edwards as the best player on their roster.

And the Hawks are ready if Edwards does ask out.
