Former NBA player Patrick Beverley believed he had the inside scoop on LeBron James announcing his decision on where to play next season, but indicated his source misled him.
King James is reportedly deciding between several teams, with the Eastern Conference’s Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers among strong suitors. However, he’s been waiting to let the world know of which team he’s decided upon.
Beverley, who was James’ teammate on the Los Angeles Lakers from August 2022 to February 2023, shared on X that rumors suggested James would make his big announcement on Monday. However, Monday came and went without any news from James.
“Can’t believe that source lied to me, man,” Beverley shared with a facepalm emoji on his X account Tuesday.

“Used to be a star now you just bait on here like the rest of us,” one X commenter replied to Beverley’s update.
“I think you should know better than anyone that LeBron is going to move when he wants and won’t leak to anyone,” another individual commented.
Others wrote, “Its cool we aint believe you anyways,” and “Shut up. You were told to tweet that to swing prediction markets. You’re a clown.”
Kalshi, a popular prediction market, continually updates the percentage chances that the NBA teams will land James for next season. As of this writing, Kalshi shows that the Heat have a slightly higher chance than the Cavaliers, followed by the Golden State Warriors and the 76ers.
James announced his departure from the Lakers after eight seasons with the team, including helping them win another NBA championship in 2020. He previously played for the Cavaliers and Heat, where he also won championships, among many other career achievements.
Now with his career winding down, he’ll make another major move as a free agent, but it doesn’t appear he or his agent are concerned about others wanting it to be over with. That includes NBA commissioner Adam Silver, who even said not knowing which team James will play for is delaying the NBA schedule.
The timeline for when James will announce his decision remains unknown. On Monday, ESPN reported that James’s agent, Rich Paul, said they would continue to take their time to make any decisions or announcements.
“We’re not going to be rushed. It’s his choice to make and when he makes the choice, he’ll make it,” James told co-host Max Kellerman on their “Game Over” podcast.
