Three teens were charged after a pursuit ended in a crash following possible shots fired, according to the Laredo Police Department.
Officers were patrolling the area of Saunders Street and Valencia Avenue at about 2 a.m. July 15 when they heard possible shots fired south of their location.
Officers then saw an orange 2015 Jeep Renegade traveling north from the immediate area where the possible shots were believed to have originated. The Jeep was speeding and disregarding stop signs before a pursuit began when an officer attempted a traffic stop, police said.
The driver lost control of the Jeep and crashed into a stop sign near Jefferson Street and Flores Avenue. Three males then got out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but were detained, according to police.
The occupants were identified as 17-year-old Damian Bryan Morales and two 16-year-olds.
Officers found a spent 9 mm casing inside the Jeep, police said.
Morales told officers he had taken his grandmother’s vehicle without permission and admitted that he and the juvenile driver had discharged a firearm in the 200 block of Garcia Street, according to police.
Jail records show Morales was charged with theft of property between $2,500 and $30,000, a third-degree felony, discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities, a Class A misdemeanor, and evading arrest or detention, a Class A misdemeanor.
He was booked into Webb County Jail and remained in custody as of Tuesday afternoon on bonds totaling $25,000.
The juvenile driver was detained on charges of evading arrest with a motor vehicle, a third-degree felony, reckless driving, a Class B misdemeanor, and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities, a Class A misdemeanor.
The second juvenile was charged with evading arrest, a Class A misdemeanor.
