A Long Island town was slapped with subpoenas for possible election shenanigans after an 83-year-old granny claimed she had “no idea” she was an official candidate for office despite appearing on the ballot.
New York State Attorney General Letitia James served the subpoenas to the town of Huntington asking for records from its 2025 elections, according to Christine Geed, a spokesperson for the municipality.
“The AG subpoenaed the Town for employment records relating to that investigation — the Town is fully cooperating with the AG’s Office,” Geed said.

The probe comes months after the bizarre aftermath of the election for town supervisor, with granny Maria Delgado pulling in more than 1,100 votes on the liberal Working Families Party line — enough to propel the GOP candidate to victory and sparking accusations from Democrats that the 83-year-old was planted by Republicans to pull votes from their candidate.
James, who is a Democrat, first stepped in eight months ago after Republican incumbent Ed Smyth beat Democratic challenger Cooper Macco by just 418 votes, according to final tallies by the Suffolk County Board of Elections.
Delgado first claimed she didn’t know she was on the ballots, but her story was later called into question when an acquaintance told media “she ran.” She then avoided further comments to the press.
Working Families Party leaders claimed at the time that Delgado, who had pulled in about 3% of the vote, had taken over the line in a primary against the Democratic candidate with a support group of Republicans who had switched registration to tip the scales.
After the election, Delgado shockingly burst into laughter when reporters asked about her candidacy, asking if it was a joke at first, and said she “had no idea” and was “flabbergasted” to find out she was on the ballot, The Post previously reported.
Days later, a man at Delgado’s home suggested she actually knew about her candidacy — and that her family was proud of the campaign she ran.
“She ran, she lost, and I’m proud of her — we’re proud of her. No comment,” the unidentified man said before walking into Delgado’s home.
However, public records showed that the town employee listed as a witness on the party petition for Delgado hasn’t lived at his listed Greenlawn address for at least four years — and the family living there now said they never signed it.
Town Republicans, however, previously called the accusations of party raiding “post-election spin and sour grapes.”
