Victor Wembanyama will be the cover athlete for NBA 2K27. 2K Sports confirmed the news on Wednesday morning, after hours of speculation after Wembanyama was spotted doing a photoshoot in Brooklyn. Along with Wembanyama, WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark and Chicago Bulls legend Derrick Rose will grace covers of versions of the game.
It’s hard to imagine two different offseasons than Wembanyama’s in 2025 and 2026. Last year he was living with monks. This year he’s in New York City putting the finishing touches on a video game.
The decision to put Wemby on the cover should come as no surprise to anyone. The 22-year-old finished third in MVP voting last season and won his second Defensive Player of the Year award. He averaged a career-high 25 points and 11.5 rebounds per game as the Spurs finished with the second-best record in the NBA and made it all the way to the NBA Finals.

In addition to making his second All-Star team, he also established himself as a bit of a villain for non-Spurs fans during the postseason. In the second round he hit Naz Reid with an elbow that got him kicked out of a game.
Then in the Finals officials ignored him mashing Jalen Brunson and the league again deciding not to punish him. So he’s part bad guy, part unicorn.

NBA 2K Cover History
Wembanyama is officially the tallest player to ever grace the cover of an NBA2K title. The previous tallest person was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The Lakers legend was featured on one of the NBA 2k22 NBA 75th Anniversary Edition covers. Abdul-Jabbar was slightly taller than Shaquille O’Neal who appeared on the cover of NBA 2K6 and NBA 2K7 while he was with the Miami Heat.
Wembanyama is also the third Spurs player to get a cover. While Tim Duncan played the majority of his career after Y2K, he was never given the honor. However, Tony Parker was on the cover of 2K16 in France and Pau Gasol was on the 2K17 cover in Spain. And long before all this David Robinson had his own game on Sega. Hopefully, the NBA 2K team pays homage to the commercial.
What’s next for Wemby? Well, he signed a rich contract extension that drew some criticism because it was below the supermax. Now the Spurs have some financial flexibility to try and keep their core together and maybe win a championship.
