Russell Westbrook dealt another blow as Sacramento Kings make decision on his future

Russell Westbrook had a solid season with the Sacramento Kings, despite their struggles in the Western Conference.

Westbrook joined the Kings after a somewhat successful stint with the Denver Nuggets, where he was able to rehabilitate his image as a veteran player.

However, this strong performance with the Kings has not ended the way he would have hoped, as the Kings management are ready to move on from him.

Sacramento Kings do not want to bring Russell Westbrook back

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Sacramento Kings have no interest in bringing back Russell Westbrook to the team.

Despite Westbrook averaging 15.2 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.4 rebounds across 64 games last season, the Kings look to be heading in a different direction.

It is possible that the Kings are heading in a more youth-based direction, choosing to build around their first-round pick, Darius Acuff Jr. for the foreseeable future.

Westbrook, who is now 37 years of age, certainly wouldn’t fit this youth movement on the Kings, especially considering the other players on their roster as well.

Russell Westbrook might have to wait a long time before finding a new team

Westbrook will presumably now have his agent reach out to teams to try and earn another contract with an NBA team.

At 37, Westbrook is no longer the MVP-caliber player he was in his prime. But his numbers from last year show that he can still have a positive impact on the court.

Of course, there are issues with Westbrook’s play, such as his poor shooting from beyond the arc, that make him a risky signing for any NBA team in an era where perimeter scoring is so important.

But perhaps he can try and provide a team that is in desperate need for a scorer off the bench, and earn another stay in the league.
