A woman has spoken out about what she described as a disastrous flight from Dublin to Ibiza, claiming that unruly behaviour by groups of young passengers turned the journey into a nightmare.

Speaking on Newstalk, the passenger said she was left shocked after a young man allegedly made an unwanted sexual advance towards her during the flight.

She also claimed large groups of passengers were drinking heavily, shouting and moving around the cabin throughout the journey, creating an intimidating atmosphere for other travellers.

Describing the experience, the woman said cabin crew appeared to have their hands full as they dealt with the disruptive behaviour.

She told the Andrea Gilligan Lunchtime Live programme that when she and her husband arrived at the check-in desks, they immediately noticed two groups of passengers who gave her cause for concern.

‘We boarded the flight, but it just deteriorated rapidly, as they became noisier and the crew continued to serve them drinks, and there was this young girl who was saying that she could organise ‘hook ups’ for people on the flight.’

The woman told how she witnessed a young couple going into the toilet and emerging about ten minutes later to whoops and cheers from groups of other young people on board.

She told the radio station she had expected a routine flight but instead found herself surrounded by what she claimed was constant noise and disorder.

The caller said the alleged sexual proposition left her feeling deeply uncomfortable, after a young man was asked to choose a potential sexual partner, pointed to her and said ‘I want her’.

Her comments have reignited debate about disruptive passengers on flights to popular holiday destinations during the busy summer season, with many travellers calling for tougher action against those who behave irresponsibly in the air.

In a statement to Newstalk this afternoon, Ryanair said it’s committed to a stress-free environment for passengers and crew. The statement said Ryanair enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy towards passenger misconduct.
