A young woman has died after a man who plunged from a 12-storey building crashed down on top of her - and survived.
Houra Inaba, 23, was walking on a pavement in Nagoya, Japan around 1am when Shinsei Taguchi, 29, fell from a height.
The victim had been with a friend at the time of the terrifying incident and called emergency services who raced to the scene.
The pair were taken to hospital, but Ms Inaba was pronounced dead at around 5:30am due to a hemorrhagic shock, according to local reports.
Mr Taguchi is said to be unconscious and in critical condition.
It has yet to be confirmed whether Mr Taguchi jumped purposefully or if the fall was an accident.
The area was cordoned off while officers investigated the tragic incident. It has not yet been confirmed where in the building Mr Taguchi fell from.
Kyodo News described the spot as 'a busy area with many stores and entertainment facilitie.' The Mainichi said the district was 'crowded with office and apartment buildings.'
The Aichi Prefectural Police Headquarters are investigating the incident, according to The Japan News.
The fatal plunge comes two years after a teenager jumped to her death from a shopping centre in Yokohama and killed another woman walking below.
The high school student jumped from a building in a crowded shopping district, hitting a 32-year-old woman who was out with her friends in 2024.
Both women were taken to hospital, where the girl died an hour later and the other woman died soon after.
According to police, the girl was said to have jumped from the 12th floor deck of NEWoMan Yokohama, a shopping centre directly connected to JR Yokohama Station, Japan Today reported.
Police said the teenage girl lived in Kimitsu City, Chiba Prefecture, and the woman was a company employee who lived in Midori Ward, Yokohama.
