Firefighters are continuing efforts to contain a wildfire on Slievenamon in Co Tipperary after changing wind conditions caused the blaze to spread into a nearby Coillte forest.
Tipperary County Council said emergency crews are now concentrating their efforts on the forest area, working to stop the fire from spreading further across the mountain.
The council said there is ‘no immediate risk to life or property’, but has urged members of the public to avoid the area to allow emergency vehicles and firefighting crews to operate safely.
People have also been asked not to fly drones near the fire, as this could disrupt aerial firefighting operations and force aircraft carrying out water drops to stop their work.
Emergency services remained on Slievenamon overnight following two days of intensive firefighting activity.
Crews reported challenging conditions this morning, with a combination of fog and smoke affecting the area.
Further aerial assistance was requested from the Air Corps and Coillte, while a local water source was upgraded to support helicopter water drops.
Subject to safety checks, firefighters are also hoping to get teams onto the mountain to assess the fire line and carry out further operations as they continue working to bring the blaze under control.
