The Milwaukee Brewers have built a comfortable cushion atop the NL Central, holding a seven-game advantage over the Chicago Cubs. Already in strong position entering the second half of the 2026 season, Milwaukee could soon receive another boost as one of its injured infielders continues to make progress toward returning.
According to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, infielder David Hamilton has started a rehab assignment as he works his way back from injury. If everything goes according to plan, Hogg reports that the 28-year-old could rejoin Milwaukee’s active roster before the end of July.
“David Hamilton begins a rehab assignment with Class AAA Nashville, the Brewers have announced. Could be a candidate to return at the start of the road trip next week,” Hogg wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Following Hogg’s projected timeline, Hamilton could be activated as early as July 27 when Milwaukee begins a road series against the San Francisco Giants. Before that, the Brewers will finish their matchup with the New York Mets at home before traveling to face the Colorado Rockies in their next set of games.
Hamilton landed on the 10-day injured list on July 7 after suffering a left hamstring strain during Milwaukee’s 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals the day before. Before the injury, the four-year veteran had taken over as the Brewers’ primary third baseman, although his versatility allows him to fill multiple infield roles.
The 28-year-old’s return should provide Milwaukee with another reliable option in the lineup. Before landing on the injured list, the infielder collected 49 hits, three home runs, and 15 RBIs across 204 at-bats. He entered his absence with a .240 batting average, a .317 on-base percentage, and 18 stolen bases, adding speed and versatility to the Brewers’ offense.
