Monday night must have been very emotional for New York Mets starting pitcher Freddy Peralta, as this was his first time facing his former team in the Milwaukee Brewers after an offseason trade sent him to Queens after eight seasons in the Cream City. With Peralta hitting free agency at the conclusion of the 2026 season, the Brewers decided to recoup some value for him, with the Mets sending Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat in exchange for the 30-year-old starter.
Alas, Peralta did not have the best of performances during his homecoming. The Brewers rocked him to the tune of eight runs (seven earned) as the Mets fell to 42-59 on the season after suffering an 8-3 defeat.
Nonetheless, Peralta loved going back to the place he called home for eight years, as he grew into the person he is now after starting out his career with the Brewers.

“It’s a place that’s always going to be in my heart…Milwaukee is always going to mean something to me, and my family too,” Peralta said, via SNY on X.
A trade involving Peralta was inevitable for the Brewers, as they always tried to get as much value as they could for players who were nearing free agency. And it was an excellent time for Milwaukee to sell as well, as he was coming off a season in which he recorded an ERA of 2.70 in 33 games played (176.2 innings pitched), and the Mets saw him as a huge upgrade for their starting rotation.
However, Peralta has not been at his best in New York. Through 21 starts (109.2 innings pitched), he has recorded an ERA of 5.01, as he has not been helpful whatsoever for the Mets amid their disastrous 2026 campaign.
Considering what the Mets gave up for Peralta, they might be better off keeping him and trying to re-sign him at a discounted rate with the hope that his 2026 is an outlier bad season instead of selling low at this year’s deadline.
