Former Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta is back in Milwaukee with the New York Mets in town for a three-game series. The series began Monday night, with Peralta taking the mound.
But before he could even throw his first pitch, he had a reunion of sorts with his old friends, including none other than Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy.
Peralta and Murphy were seen having an interaction on the field, as captured as well in photos shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.
The game also marks Peralta’s first start in the second half of the 2026 MLB season — and his first against his former team since he was traded by the Brewers to the Mets in January.
To refresh, Milwaukee sent Peralta and reliever Tobias Myers to the Mets in exchange for Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat. The Brewers felt they had to part ways with Peralta rather than risk losing him in free agency for nothing. At the moment, Peralta still has no extension contract offer from the Mets, as he plays out the $8 million option for the 2026 season that Milwaukee picked up before trading him.
Murphy sounds off on possible Peralta reunion
During the first half of the 2026 season with the Mets, Peralta went 5-8 with a 4.66 ERA through 20 starts. He has not been flashing the form he had in 2025 with Milwaukee when he led the National League with 17 wins against six losses, while posting a 2.70 ERA across 33 starts.
But would Murphy want Peralta coming back if given the chance ahead of the trade deadline?

The Mets are not doing very well, while Milwaukee could use some depth on its rotation. Who knows if the Brewers would actually make a push for a Peralta trade as the trade deadline looms.
