Justin Verlander's curt reaction to absurd Buster Posey Hall of Fame question says it all

I do not know why it would have any affect on Posey's legacy. His stint on the field and as the head of a front office are very easy to separate.

As a player, Posey experienced more success on the baseball field than just about any player in history. He earned seven NL All-Star nods, five Silver Slugger Awards, three World Series rings, and the 2012 NL MVP Award.

While he may not be a unanimous selection, he should be able to get in once his name is on the ballot. Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins is a relevant case study here, and he appeared on 76.1 percent of the ballots in his first turn on the ballot in 2024.

Posey should see similar support in the next voting cycle. This will be his first year on the ballot. He has the career numbers and accolades that should lead to a strong case for induction.

One of the better moves he has made was signing Justin Verlander to a one-year, $15 million deal before the 2025 season. The early returns of that deal were not promising. However, Verlander had a strong finish to the year. Overall, he pitched to a 3.85 ERA in 29 starts with San Francisco

The veteran pitcher hoped to reach 300 career wins, but he has struggled to stay on the field this year for the Detroit Tigers. Right before the All-Star Break, he announced that he would be retiring at the end of the season. Randy Johnson was the last player to reach 300 career wins, and he did it in a Giants uniform. He may be the last to ever do it.
