North Texans are about to see a new face on their TV screens as one local station welcomes a new reporter all the way from California.
Emmy Award-winning journalist Erin Heft has officially joined ABC affiliate WFAA in Dallas. In a Monday, July 20, Instagram post, she wrote that "the new chapter begins today!"
"I'm incredibly honored to join this legendary team!" she continued. "Cheers to everything ahead!"
Heft comes to WFAA from KCRA 3 in Sacramento, where she spent five years. Announcing her departure in late June, she said she first came there "with a car packed with everything I couldn't live without, knowing a handful of people, and having landed a job in my dream newsroom full of some of the most talented people in the industry." The reporter and fill-in anchor left with "a heart full of gratitude."
She thanked the "incredible newsroom and an unforgettable community" in Northern California and said while it's time for a new adventure, the region has "challenged me, shaped me, and changed me in ways I never could have imagined."
"To everyone who welcomed me into your lives, trusted me with your stories, stopped to say hello at a live shot, while sharing your triumphs and heartbreaks, thank you," Heft wrote. "Journalists deeply invest in the people of our communities. We witness, front row, the most beautiful and tragic moments impacting the lives of our neighbors, often working tirelessly to ensure voices are heard. Change can be had. And injustice can't stay silent."
As for her next chapter, Heft called the new gig in Dallas a "dream position." And Heft's addition isn't the only recent change at WFAA. Reporter Tiffany Liou left early this month after eight years at the station. Back in February, the Daybreak morning broadcast gained two new anchors, Dallas natives Matt Howerton and Dia Wall.
