Drake may be behind an iconic Texas westernwear store's comeback. Here's why

Drake's fondness for Texas is no secret, but rumors are flying that the rapper is now behind the reopening of an iconic Western shop that closed last year in one small city. Here's why people think he's going to "Take Care" of things.

In April 2025, 65-year-old cowboy boot, hat and apparel store Brenham Saddle Shop Inc. closed its doors. The iconic store located in Brenham (between Austin and Houston on Highway 290) was shuttered, although local TV station KBTX said the closure was not meant to be permanent. As such, its return has been teased for months now, with clues that Drake may be involved. When the closure was announced, KBTX news anchor Rusty Surette said on X that he was "told there's been a change in ownership and there's a lot of rumors about who -- but we'll leave it at that. For now."

Sage Nutt, whose great-grandfather first opened the store in 1960, told KBTX at the time that he was "very excited for any sort of person that comes in and decides to do something with this place." Now, even more hints have dropped that suggest something in "God's Plan" for Drake and the store.

Is Drake taking over an iconic Texas westernwear store?

For his own part, the 39-year-old Canadian hitmaker is no stranger to the Lone Star State and never shies away from showing it. In fact, he even owns a $15 million, 313-acre ranch in Washington County, near Brenham and Chappell Hill - plus, he's a frequent visitor at Brenham Saddle Shop and has appeared on their social media a few times. When it teased reopening in June 2025, Drake reportedly reposted that announcement to his Instagram story, which sent rumors flying. 

On Sunday, July 19, more details arrived. In an Instagram post, the store launched a graphic that reads, "World famous Brenham Saddle Shop" in a barbed wire font alongside the words "Fall 2026." It was captioned, "DOORS OPENING SOON." Round Top Finds, a social media page dedicated to guiding visitors to the nearby Round Top Antiques Fair, commented, "CVO Chappell Hills Very Own" in a spin on Drake's OVO brand.

Two hours before the saddle shop made their announcement, Round Top Finds posted a similar graphic alongside a photo of Drake wearing a "Brenham" hoodie, captioning it "Chappell Hill's Very Own @champagnepapi is continuing the legendary @brenhamsaddleshop, opening FALL 2026." On their story, Round Top Finds said people "might want to make a stop in Brenham" when the fall Round Top Antiques Fair comes around.

So are the rumors true? Solid confirmation remains to be seen, but it's safe to say the iconic store is "Still Here."
