WNBA star Brittney Griner spent 11 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury. The team drafted her first overall in 2013, and she went on to become a 10-time All-Star. She also helped the franchise win the WNBA championship in 2014.
Naturally, Griner also set plenty of franchise records during her time with the Mercury. She's second on the team in points with 5,572, trailing only the great Diana Taurasi (10,646 points). She's also first in blocks (812) and two-point field goals made (2,183).
Griner also used to lead the Mercury in total rebounds with 2,322. Unfortunately, she recently lost that No. 1 record.
Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner, who initially played for Phoenix from 2009 to 2019 before returning in 2025, officially surpassed Griner on the franchise's all-time rebounding list.
Bonner recorded six rebounds during Sunday's game against Griner and her new team, the Connecticut Sun, to increase her rebounding tally to 2,324 and set a new Mercury record.
"DeWanna Bonner just became the Phoenix Mercury’s all-time leader in rebounds. Congratulations @dewannabonner!" the Mercury announced after the game.
For what it's worth, Griner doesn't seem bothered by losing the franchise's rebounding record. She has a good relationship with Bonner, and that was clear during their showdown.
In fact, as the Mercury revealed, Griner shared a moment with Bonner and had a laugh with her after the 38-year-old veteran achieved the career milestone.
While Griner lost the record, she remains the team's all-time leader in career rebounds per game at 7.4. Bonner's career average for rebounds with Phoenix is 6.0.
