Several days ago, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever picked up a 108-88 win over the New York Liberty, but Clark also picked up another technical foul during the game, which is her sixth for the season.
She picked up the tech after she’d been guarding the Liberty’s Marine Johannes and made hard contact with Jonquel Jones on a screen. Johannes knocked down a 3-pointer, and Clark complained about there not being a call made on the aggressive screen play.
On Monday, Clark spoke with reporters ahead of a Fever practice and was asked if she received an explanation for the technical.
“I just yelled at him to call it, and obviously it was a pretty quick technical, but, whatever,” Clark told reporters in an interview session before practice.

When asked if she planned to change up her “approach to the game” because she’s getting close to a suspension, Clark said “No” and shook her head.
The WNBA increased the fines players get for technicals this season. According to Front Office Sports, players receive a $500 fine for each of their first three technical fouls, and then a $1,000 fine for their fourth through seventh technical fouls.
An eighth technical foul results in a $1,500 fine and an automatic one-game suspension for a player. Clark can afford the fines, but at the rate her season is going, her eighth tech would sideline her during an important second-half race to secure a postseason spot.
She recently put on an impressive and historic performance, scoring 45 points and dishing out 10 assists in the Fever’s 110-107 win against the Seattle Storm. No player has ever achieved 45-plus points and 10-plus assists in WNBA history.
As of this writing, WNBA All-Star Angel Reese of the Atlanta Dream also seems almost guaranteed to get a suspension before her season ends. She leads all players with seven technical fouls, followed by Clark and Kahleah Copper, who each have six apiece.
Although they each have 18 more games to go, the Fever and Dream are among the teams that would qualify for the WNBA Playoffs if the season ended today. As of this writing, both teams are 16-10, with the Dream in fifth and the Fever in sixth place, respectively.
Eight teams will make it into the playoffs, and it would be an unfortunate circumstance for either the Dream or the Fever to lose their star players for a game and then miss the playoffs by a game later this season.
