Many paw parents know that once their dog enters the "terrible twos" puppy stage, the world suddenly revolves around the pup—not the humans. Convincing a young dog to do something they don't want to do can feel nearly impossible, and sometimes their people have to get a little creative.
For Franklin, a 1-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog, that phase has officially arrived. Like many adolescent pups, he's determined to do things on his own terms, and no one else's opinion seems to matter. In a recent TikTok video, Franklin is happily playing in the backyard when a downpour rolls in. His mom opens the back door and repeatedly calls for him to come inside, but the stubborn Berner has other plans.
As the clip begins, Mom firmly says, "Franklin! Now!" making it clear they've already been having this conversation for a while. Franklin hops onto the deck just long enough to make it seem like he's finally going to listen. Instead, he casually grabs his toy and heads right back into the pouring rain.
Mom watches in disbelief as the Bernese Mountain Dog ignores her repeated requests and happily resumes his backyard adventures. Judging by the weather, she's probably picturing the muddy paw prints and soaking-wet fur that are about to make their way into the house, but Franklin couldn't care less.

Finally, she gives up and delivers one last line: "Fine! Bye!" before turning toward the door. Apparently, that was the magic phrase.
The second Franklin realizes Mom might actually go inside without him, he abandons his rainy play session and runs toward the house. It's almost as if he's thinking, "Well, why didn't you say so?"

Many Dog Parents Found This Video Relatable
So many of his followers left comments offering Franklin's mom relatable comfort, including:
"I have a stubborn dog, too, although she’s a Golden Retriever... She’s very sassy and whines when she’s mad."
"Rule #1 of being a Berner parent... You do not tell them what to do; you have to suggest it and make it sound like it is more beneficial for them."
"He can't hear you, you know, because of the rain, lol!"
Thankfully, sometimes all it takes is convincing a stubborn toddler—or in this case, a 100-pound Bernese Mountain Dog—that it was their idea all along.
