A bald eagle that found fame when her nest became the focus of a viral livestream has been rescued after going missing, causing some of her fans to fear the worst.
The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreation (LADPR) announced on Sunday, July 19, that it rescued a bald eagle who needed care near Big Bear Lake, California, alongside a video of the eagle struggling in water.
The video shows the eagle being found on the ground and taken in by the Los Angeles San Dimas Raptor Rescue Team. The rescue team put the bald eagle in a cage and transported it to a facility, where it was dried off and cared for.
“Wildlife conservation takes teamwork. 🦅,” the team captioned the video. “When a bald eagle was found in need near Big Bear Lake, an incredible team came together to make sure it received the care it deserved.”
The LADPR said that the eagle was rescued, stabilized, and transferred to a specialized rehabilitation facility. It added that the creature was “safe” and receiving “specialized care,” and additional information would be shared “as it becomes available.”
Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) shared on Facebook that the group believes the injured bird is Jackie, a female bald eagle who went viral after a camera was set up showing her and her mate Shadow’s daily lives at their nest. The mother disappeared from her much-watched nest several days ago.
FOBBV, which had set up the camera at the eagles’ nest, said it identified the recently found eagle as Jackie based on “videos and pictures from the public and the initial rehab center.”
“She is in the best place she can be and getting the care she needs. We have not received any updates but were assured by the facility that they will contact us when they have information,” FOBBV said in a statement.
Wildlife experts told KTLA and UPI that during her time away from the nest, Jackie was repeatedly attacked by other birds on the north shore of Big Bear Lake. Experts told the outlets that the eagle did not suffer any broken bones or serious injuries, but had been unable to fly and is underweight.
This comes just months after Jackie and Shadow, who have been together since 2018, welcomed their two most recent eaglets, Sandy and Luna, in April.
It is unknown when Jackie will be able to return to the wild, but she is expected to remain in the care of experts at the Ojai Raptor Center for a few days, the outlets reported.

The latest videos from FOBBV’s live nest cam show Shadow continuing to raise Sandy and Luna on his own, according to KTLA.
FOBBV shared in an update on Monday, July 20, that Jackie was now “stable” and experts were “waiting on diagnostic results” for her that could “take several days.”
“Jackie is a strong eagle and we as a community will get through this,” the FOBBV wrote. “Meanwhile, Shadow is an excellent mate and father; he continues to care for Sandy and Luna while protecting the nest and territory.”
