More than two months after the deadly Robbins Lumber fire and explosion, the Searsmont community is coming together to support those still recovering.
Town officials have organized a benefit barbecue and concert this Saturday at Riverside Farm to raise money for people impacted by the May explosion. The event will feature free food, live music and more than 30 raffle prizes for both children and adults, including a brand-new car.
Sign up for our NewslettersOrganizers say the event is about more than fundraising. It's also an opportunity to recognize the first responders and community members who continue to recover.
"We feel the support coming from the community. For us right now, what's very present is the fact that we still have people who are in our services from Searsmont Rescue in the hospital who need all the support they can get, so for us, we feel the support, but we need more moving forward," said Daniel Quintanilla, a firefighter and advanced EMT with the Town of Searsmont.
Organizers expect hundreds of people to attend Saturday's event.
The May explosion at Robbins Lumber killed three people and injured dozens of others, including several firefighters. Some first responders are still recovering from their injuries.
