Locally heavy rainfall could lead to isolated flash flooding tonight, with a few strong-to-severe storms possible Wednesday afternoon.

A few thunderstorms are possible tonight across Maine, with the main concern being locally heavy rainfall. The heaviest downpours are most likely between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m., especially across southern and coastal Maine, where isolated areas could pick up 1 to 2 inches of rain per hour, leading to localized flash flooding.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms return Wednesday afternoon, and if enough sunshine develops, a few storms could become strong to severe, with damaging wind gusts and hail the primary threats. A cold front Wednesday night will bring an end to the storms, followed by much drier, less humid air and a stretch of mostly dry, seasonable weather through the weekend.
