It has not been a smooth transition for Lane Kiffin as he left Ole Miss for LSU. Kiffin took shots at Ole Miss, which resulted in Pete Golding having to respond to his former boss’s comments.
On Wednesday at SEC Media Days, Golding had to address his relationship with Kiffin, per Brett McMurphy of On3.
“Lane and I are good. I didn’t know him before taking the job (at Ole Miss). I have no ill will toward Coach Kiffin. He texts me on a regular basis & there’s certain things we’ll talk about, certain things we don’t talk about,” Golding said.

While Golding was polite when speaking about Kiffin, he has not been as polite in the past, as noted by Matt Galatzan of Sports Illustrated.
“My issue with Lane was what he did to the other people around him, the position they were put in and then the perception of what it was,” Golding said. “I just told him, ‘I’m not going to sit here and tell you I can respect that because I don’t. I can understand the competitive part, but not the rest of it with the players and other people in this building.’”
Overall, 21 players left Ole Miss and joined Kiffin at LSU, along with multiple coaches. Still, Golding, Trindad Chambliss, and Kewan Lacy all ended up staying. While Golding and Kiffin seem to have a personal relationship that is good, the professional one may not be as solid.
“There’s a Lane side to us where we’re buddies and friends, then a professional side that I have to get on his ass sometimes,” Golding said.
Kiffin and Golding will face off on the field this year as well. On September 19, LSU will host Ole Miss.
