Freddy Peralta has been in trade rumors over the past few weeks, and the Padres should be a team interested.

The San Diego Padres could look to make a move at the trade deadline, and pitching is the one area they could use an upgrade. There are some players who may be available who fit that bill, and one of the first who comes to mind is Freddy Peralta from the New York Mets.

Jim Bowden recently spoke about the idea of the Padres going for Peralta, and it’s the best chance they have over the other pitching options available.

“If you wanna take a shot without giving up too much, Freddie Peralta might be a guy,” Bowden said on Foul Territory TV. “If your pitching room thinks that they can make Peralta closer to what he was a year ago with Milwaukee, get him out of New York, get him out of the pressure, get him in San Diego, and if you think your pitching people can get him back to where he was, take a chance on the rental.

“The price is Kash Mayfield, who is a third or fourth starter, at best.
He’s two or three years away, but if he makes it, it’s probably a back-of-the-rotation starter. At least that’s the view that I’m getting from a lot of scouts that have been watching him closely this year. Would I give up a future third or fourth starter to take a shot on Peralta if I’m going for it? Yeah, probably.”

As far as players like Tarik Skubal, Bowden doesn’t think he has a chance at getting them.

The Padres are in the middle of the NL West with a 50-51 record, and if they plan on getting into the playoffs, they’re going to have to make a move to take them over the top. Trading for Peralta is a start, and anything else they think they’ll need to do at the deadline.
