The Ole Miss football program is currently gearing up for the upcoming 2026 college football season, which is slated to get underway in less than two months. The Rebels are looking to build off the success of last year, which featured a trip to the national semifinal game, where they lost in narrow fashion to the Miami Hurricanes.
The Rebels will be led this year by head coach Pete Golding, who took over for the team’s playoff run last season for Lane Kiffin, who left to take the head coaching job at LSU in controversial fashion before the season was complete.
Recently, Golding participated in SEC Media Day in Tampa, Florida, and spoke on his number one requirement for players entering the Ole Miss program.

“Rule No. 1 in our program is to be a good dude,” said Golding, per Brett McMurphy of On3 Sports on X, formerly Twitter.
While integrity might not come to the top of mind when discussing what makes a college football team elite, Golding certainly exemplified it by the way he handled the adversity of last season, steadying the ship after Kiffin’s departure and getting his players locked in for their run through the playoffs.
Along the way, Ole Miss blew out Tulane and pulled off a big upset against Georgia to reach the semifinal game, where they ultimately bowed out in narrow fashion against the Hurricanes.
This season, quarterback Trinidad Chambliss will be back as the Rebels’ starting quarterback after a lengthy legal battle this offseason regarding his eligibility, and the star figures to garner Heisman Trophy consideration on the heels of his stellar 2025 season.
In any case, the Rebels are slated to get things underway on September 6 with a game against Louisville.
