San Diego Padres closer Mason Miller has been one of the hottest names in the rumor mill with the August 3 trade deadline quickly approaching. While it’s unclear whether or not the front office will part ways with Miller, the latest word on the street is that a different reliever on the roster is gaining interest in trade talks.
Rumors suggest that reliever Wandy Peralta has been mentioned in trade negotiations leading up to the deadline, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. It’s not clear at the moment what the Padres could receive in a deal for the 34-year-old left-hander. But it appears contending teams may be interested in Peralta as a potentially cheaper option than Miller.
“One Padres reliever actively being discussed in trades is Wandy Peralta,” Heyman reported. “Solid lefty with a 2.32 ERA [this season].”

In 50.1 innings pitched in the 2026 campaign, the 11-year veteran is having what might be a career year in San Diego. As Heyman mentioned, Peralta owns a 2.32 ERA, which is a career best. He also owns a 1.272 WHIP while totaling 32 strikeouts. Wandy Peralta has not recorded a single save this year, but does have three holds.
The Padres are currently 50-51 on the season heading into Wednesday’s matchup against the Atlanta Braves. With the club just on the outside of a Wild Card spot, the front office appears to be choosing to either be a buyer or a seller by the trade deadline. Based on the rumors surrounding Mason Miller and now Wandy Peralta, San Diego may be opting to sell and look forward to the 2027 campaign.
