The Kelly Clarkson Show ended in May, but Kelly Clarkson herself still has plenty of things going on to keep her busy, including her Las Vegas residency. Now that her talk show is behind her, Kelly’s able to focus on music right now… and according to what she said at her show on Friday, July 17, she’s able to do things now that never would’ve flown on daytime TV.
Kelly joked about being fired from her show.

While touching a fan’s jacket, she said, “I would get fired by NBC, but I don’t work there anymore. We are sad about [it because] it was a fun show.”
She admitted that she was a bit of an HR nightmare.
Kelly has had a lot of different work experiences during her time in the entertainment industry, including her earlier years on tour just after winning American Idol. And as she pointed out on stage, that’s exactly what made her tough to deal with for the HR department on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
“It’s funny, you go to those HR meetings and you’re, like, ‘Nobody on the road would last,’” she said. “It’s just a different world, you know? I was 19 on a bus with dudes, what, I can’t do what? ‘Yeah, that’s completely inappropriate.’”
She added, “Everyone actually hated doing HR meetings with me because I am a nerd. I would literally be, like, ‘I’m sorry,’ [and] I would stop the class and everyone would be like, ‘Can I do the meeting without Kelly?’”
She decided to walk away from The Kelly Clarkson Show to be there for her kids.
In February, Kelly announced that she would be ending her talk show after seven seasons to be more present for kids Remi and River after their father (and Kelly’s ex-husband) Brandon Blackstock died in 2025 following a battle with cancer. At the time, she admitted it wasn’t an “easy decision” for her to make.
“Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives,” Kelly said in a statement at the time.

I’ll still be making music, playing shows here and there and you may catch me on The Voice from time to time … you never know where I might show up next,” she continued. “But for now, I want to thank y’all so much for allowing our show to be a part of your lives, and for believing in us and hanging with us for seven incredible years.”
