Josh Duhamel joked that he was “too old” for his wife Audra Mari after realizing she is the same generation as his younger sister.
The actor and former Miss World America have been married since 2022, have two children, and have a 21-year age gap between them.
Appearing on the podcast “The HoneyDew with Ryan Sickler,” 53-year-old Duhamel explained how he only realized how large the age difference between him and his wife actually was after seeing an old photograph.
A photo reminded him of their age difference
Duhamel revealed that his younger sister Kassidy is the same age as his wife. He remembered the moment when, as a 21-year-old college student, he found out that he was going to have a younger sister.
"Cassidy came along and I was playing football at Minot State University," he shared. "Warming up on the field. I remember looking up at the stands and I saw my mom and had this bump. And I'm like, 'What the; Is my mom pregnant?' I'm 21 years old ... and she's having another baby."
As he explained, the news surprised him because he was already 21 years old.
“I said to myself, ‘Oh my God, you have to be kidding me.’ But today it is a great story for us,” the actor said.
Years later, he found a photo of himself at 21 holding his newborn sister Kassidy. That image made him compare her age with his wife’s.
"I looked at the photo and I looked at my wife and I said, 'You know, you and Cassidy are exactly the same age." he joked.
He added that only then did he realize how large their age difference actually was.
"...I am officially too old for you," he joked to laughs from Sickler. "They're literally like months apart in age. I never looked at it like that until I saw that photo. I was like, 'Wait a second.'"
Age becomes a topic when they talk about children
Audra Mari previously spoke about their age difference and admitted that it is usually not a problem in everyday life, except when they discuss expanding their family.
“Age is not usually a topic, but it definitely becomes one when we talk about children,” she said in an interview with Graham Bensinger.
She explained that she believes Duhamel might have wanted a bigger family if he were younger.
“He would probably have five more children if he were at least 40 now. That is probably true. Still, we hope to have several children, God willing,” she added.
