Joshua told TMZ that he learned about the serious accident on the morning of July 21 and was informed that she had died on the way to the hospital.

The young deaf actress who starred as Jia in the “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” films has passed away at the age of 18.

Her devastated father confirmed that she died in a horrific traffic accident in Maryland.

The talented deaf actress entered Hollywood by chance through a simple advertisement.

Death confirmed by her father

Her father Joshua Hottle confirmed to the media that Kaylee was killed in a traffic accident that happened Tuesday morning in Maryland. Later, he posted a video on Facebook in which he spoke about the circumstances of her death in American Sign Language. “I’m taking a flight I never wanted to take,” he wrote alongside the video.

Joshua told TMZ that he learned about the serious accident on the morning of July 21 and was informed that she had died on the way to the hospital. In the video, he added that he was flying from Texas to Maryland to collect his daughter’s body.

Family asks for privacy

Kaylee and her parents were deaf, and according to the Houston Chronicle, deafness has been present through four generations of her father’s family. The Texas School for the Deaf, which Kaylee attended, released a statement following her death.

“We are deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news that one of our graduates, Kaylee Hottle, tragically passed away yesterday in a traffic accident in Frederick, Maryland,” the school wrote on Facebook. “Our hearts are with Kaylee’s family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew and loved her during this incredibly difficult time.”

The school asked the public to respect the family’s privacy. “At this time, we have very little information and ask everyone to respect Kaylee’s family’s privacy and refrain from sharing or speculating about the circumstances of the accident,” the statement read.

Her career was launched by a commercial

In an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Kaylee explained that her acting career began in 2017 when she appeared in a commercial for the Convo app. The advertisement caught the attention of producers of the film “Kong: Skull Island,” who believed she matched the description of the character Jia, an orphan who communicates with King Kong through sign language.

In “Godzilla vs. Kong,” she starred alongside Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and others. Her character Jia is the adopted daughter of Dr. Ilene Andrews, played by Hall. Kaylee, Hall and Brian Tyree Henry reprised their roles in the 2024 sequel. A new installment has been announced for March 2027, but according to available information, Kaylee and Hall were not part of that project.

Besides her role in the franchise, Kaylee appeared in an episode of the series “Magnum P.I.” in 2021. For her performance in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” in 2024, she was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor.
