Jonathan Quick retired from the NHL after his third season with the New York Rangers. While he will be remembered for his epic run with the Los Angeles Kings, Quick did get to end his run with his hometown team. The Rangers have hired Quick and Derick Brassard to the front office.
“Jonathan Quick is sticking around. The Rangers are hiring the future Hall of Fame goalie as a director of goaltending development, The Post has learned,” Mollie Walker reported. “Quick will join the player development staff and report to Tanner Glass.”
“The [Rangers] are hiring former player Derick Brassard as a player development assistant, according to a league source. He’ll report directly to new director Tanner Glass,” Vince Mercogliano of The Athletic reported.

Quick won two Stanley Cups with the Kings in 2012 and 2014, taking home a Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP. During a poor 2023 season, LA traded him to the Vegas Golden Knights, where he was the third-string goalie. He gets credit for a third Stanley Cup win, which will go down as an epic trivia question.
Quick was solid in his three-year run with the Rangers, picking up 35 wins in 70 starts and 76 appearances. He clearly has a strong relationship with Igor Shesterkin, which will be key in his new role.
Both Quick and Brassard will report to fellow ex-Ranger Tanner Glass in the player development department. And the whole hockey operations side is run by ex-Ranger Chris Drury, the general manager. Some teams have had success in bringing back alumni, like the Philadelphia Flyers. Others, like Steve Yzerman’s Detroit Red Wings tenure, offer a cautionary tale.
The Rangers made some massive offseason moves, including the trades for Pavel Dorofeyev and Marcus Pettersson. Will it result in a playoff appearance in Mike Sullivan’s second season behind the bench?
