The Dallas Stars have locked in one of the NHL's top goal scorers for another season.
The Stars announced Tuesday that they have signed Jason Robertson to a one-year, $12 million contract to avoid arbitration. He's once again eligible for a contract extension on January 1, 2027.
"Jason has been a cornerstone of our franchise since he was drafted in 2017," Stars general manager Jim Nill said in a statement. "A dynamic and skilled player, he has been one of the league's top offensive threats since making his NHL debut. We're excited for what this season will bring for both Jason and the team as we continue our push to bring a championship to Dallas."
Robertson hit restricted free agency this summer after tying for fourth in the NHL with 45 goals in 82 games of the 2025-26 season.
He also led his team with five goals in six playoff games before the Stars were eliminated from the first round by the Minnesota Wild.
Nill told reporters after his team's playoff exit that the franchise's "focus is to get [Robertson] signed."
"He's a big part of our team, and we've drafted and developed him, and we think he'll be a Dallas Star for the rest of his career," Nill said in May, per the Dallas Morning News' Lia Assimakopoulos.
The following month the Stars allowed the Seattle Kraken to speak with Robertson, who turned down an approximate eight-year, $15 million AAV offer from the team, per TSN's Elliotte Friedman.
At the time, the Stars were "believed to be at least $2 million apart per season" from Robertson, according to Friedman.
Friedman later reported the Stars held "pretty legitimate talks" with the Pittsburgh Penguins about a potential trade for Robertson.
Robertson will instead come one step closer to spending the entirety of his NHL career in Dallas as he heads into his eighth season with the franchise. His new deal gives both sides more time to hammer out a long-term extension.
Only nine NHL players have scored more goals over the last five seasons than Robertson, who has racked up 196 tallies in 402 games since the start of his breakout campaign in 2021.
Mikko Rantanen, Roope Hintz, Wyatt Johnston, Matt Duchene, Miro Heiskanen, Esa Lindell, Thomas Harley and Jake Oettinger are players signed to long-term deals in Dallas. Robertson will hope to join them next year.
That core is staying in place for now despite the uncertainty around Robertson's contract and a report from Friedman that Harley had been placed on the trade block as part of a failed offer to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Zach Werenski.
These returning Stars will be tasked with helping the franchise finally contend for a Stanley Cup after following up three straight Western Conference Final losses with last spring's first-round elimination.
Robertson was originally drafted by the Stars in the second round of the 2017 NHL draft. He has totaled 213 goals and 277 assists for 490 points in 456 regular-season games, while adding 23 goals and 29 assists for 52 points through 62 playoff games in Dallas.
