The Houston Rockets are banking on two-time NBA All-Star big man Alperen Sengun to take that next step in the league.

The Houston Rockets have made the NBA Playoffs in each of the last two seasons, but they barely have anything to show for those two trips to the postseason, having been eliminated twice in the first round during that stretch.

But with Alperen Sengun’s best days widely believed to still be in front of him, the Rockets hope that they will take a big step sooner rather than later.

During Tuesday’s edition of NBA on ESPN, Ramona Shelburne spoke about the importance of Sengun and the expectations of him to take that “next step.”

“I think Sengun is really the big guy that they are looking forward to making that big step,” Shelburne said.

“He started off [last season] so strong and then kind of tapered off towards the end of the year. I know they had some difficult conversations with him at the end of the year, just saying this is what we need from you, this is what we expect from you in terms of habits and in terms of growth throughout the season because he’s been called baby Joker for a long time. He has that skill set. They love him as a person there, and I think the sooner he takes that next step, the sooner this team gets to be one.”

About to turn 24 years old on Saturday, Sengun is entering his sixth season in the league looking to prove that he can be so much better than what he’s shown so far in his career in the NBA.

A two-time NBA All-Star, Sengun has averaged 19.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 148 games in the last two campaigns.
