Jodie Sweetin is sharing how she feels about playing Stephanie Tanner now, more than 30 years after the original Full House came to an end.
In the latest episode of The Dory Jackson Interview series, the 44-year-old actress noted, “I was 13 when the show ended, which is just the most awkward time of anyone’s life, you know what I mean?”
“So it was, you know, there was definitely... some awkward, you know, in there,” she said. “It’s nice to be able to return to the ‘90s now with a different perspective of like, an adult who, you know, you can look back at your old childhood movies and be like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s so silly,’ and appreciate them for what they are.”

The actress was only 5 years old when Full House began, and she played Stephanie for the show’s entire eight-season run from 1987 to 1995, before returning for Fuller House from 2016 to 2020.
Sweetin added that co-hosting the How Rude, Tanneritos! podcast with her co-star Andrea Barber (who played Kimmy Gibbler on the show) has allowed them to “fall in love” with the show all over again.
“Going back and doing this rewatch podcast with Andrea, we got to kind of fall in love with Full House, having never watched the series like all the way through. We started realizing like, ‘Oh, yeah, there is something about this show and this family that just feels good,’ ” Sweetin said. “And I can see why people loved it and loved that family.”
She continued: “So yeah, it’s pretty cool to be a part of that and to be able to come back now and realize like what an incredibly special gift that is.”
On the show celebrating its 40th anniversary, Sweetin said the impact it made is even more apparent.
“Full House turns 40 this year. And I would say that there are maybe a handful of shows that 40 years later, people still love, people still know, new fans start watching,” she said. “You know, and that’s an honor. Yeah, I mean, for it to be such a part of pop culture, not only here in the U.S., but like, all over the world. That’s crazy. It’s crazy. I definitely am much more grateful to Stephanie now, I think, than I was at 13.”

The sitcom ran for eight seasons, from Sept. 22, 1987, to May 23, 1995, and followed Danny Tanner (the late Bob Saget), a widowed father raising his three daughters — D.J. (Candace Cameron Bure), Stephanie (Sweetin) and Michelle Tanner (Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen) — in San Francisco with plenty of help from his brother-in-law Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos), his childhood best friend Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier) and his co-anchor (and later Jesse’s wife) Rebecca “Becky” Donaldson (Lori Loughlin).
Bure, Sweetin and Barber, along with other cast members of the original series, reprised their roles for the Netflix revival Fuller House, which ran for five seasons, from February 2016 to June 2020.
