Zendaya is keeping her marriage to Tom Holland private, but not secret.
Holland, 30, confirmed their marriage in June, following months of speculation. Since then, Zendaya, 29, has continued to keep their wedding details under wraps; however, she didn’t miss a beat to let people know that she’s taken after a fan shouted “Will you marry me, please?” as she walked the red carpet at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day fan event in Mexico on Monday, July 20.
Without hesitation, Zendaya laughed and responded, “You’re too late!”
The actress’ three-word response to the fan’s marriage proposal, which was captured on video by digital creator @javblood, may be the only wedding confirmation she’ll give, as she has previously shared that she wants to preserve privacy in her relationship. Holland also hasn’t let any wedding details slip, though he has publicly begun referring to Zendaya as his “wife.”
Holland confirmed his marriage to his Spider-Man and The Odyssey costar by debunking AI wedding photos, telling Esquire in an interview published on June 16 that his relatives weren’t fooled by the fake photos because “they were all there” at the couple’s actual wedding.
The confirmation came more than three months after Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, claimed that the pair’s nuptials had “already happened.” While chatting with Access Hollywood on the red carpet at the 2026 Actor Awards on March 1, Roach, 48, said, “The wedding has already happened. You missed it.”
Zendaya later added fuel to the marriage rumors by wearing a wedding band, paired with her engagement ring, at the 2026 Oscars on March 15. She has since continued to wear the gold band.
Holland and Zendaya have famously played on-screen couple Peter Parker and Michelle “MJ” Jones in the Spider-Man movies since 2017. While rumors of an off-screen relationship followed them for years, it wasn’t until July 2021, when they were spotted kissing in a car, that their real-life romance was confirmed.
In September of that year, they went Instagram official, with Holland sharing a selfie of the couple in honor of Zendaya’s 25th birthday and affectionately calling the Euphoria star “my MJ” in the caption.
In the years since, the two stars have kept their relationship private. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in June 2023, Holland explained, “Our relationship is something that we are incredibly protective of, and we want to keep as sacred as possible. We don’t think that we owe it to anyone. It’s our thing, and it has nothing to do with our careers.”
Zendaya echoed that sentiment in an August 2023 interview with Elle, telling the magazine that her priority is “protecting the peace” in her relationship with Holland amid their fame.
“Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public. I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love,” the Euphoria star said. “But also, I do have control over what I choose to share.”
Zendaya explained, “It’s about protecting the peace and letting things be your own, but also not being afraid to exist. You can’t hide. That’s not fun either. I am navigating it more than ever now.”
In January 2025, a family source confirmed to PEOPLE that Holland had popped the question to the Challengers star over the holiday season. A separate source told PEOPLE that “everyone close to them knew an engagement was happening,” just not when. The source said Holland had been keen to propose to Zendaya “for a while.”
“He’s always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special,” the insider continued, adding, “Tom’s always had this sweet way of letting the world know that Zendaya is his. Now, it’s official — she really is!”

The engagement news came one day after Zendaya stepped out to the 2025 Golden Globes, flashing a diamond ring on her left-hand ring finger.
Holland adorably confirmed the engagement himself months later in September 2025. While speaking at a panel event at the time, a reporter referred to Zendaya as the Bero founder’s “girlfriend,” prompting Holland to politely correct him and say, “Fiancée.”
