Jodie Sweetin is reflecting on the unique bond she shares with Full House co-star John Stamos, saying the pair have supported one another throughout their sobriety journeys.
During the July 15 episode of The Dory Jackson Interview, Sweetin explained that recovery has become one of the strongest connections in their decades-long friendship.
“John and I really, really connected in a lot of ways over [sobriety],” she said.
The actress, 44, recalled Stamos presenting her with the Experience, Strength and Hope Award in 2019, recognizing the advocacy work she has done since getting sober.

Looking back on that moment, Sweetin said the two have continued to celebrate each other’s milestones over the years.
“We have been there to celebrate each other’s big successes and milestones, and I am so glad that I got to be an example of attraction rather than promotion, which is a big principle in recovery,” she said.
Sweetin explained that the recovery principle is about letting personal growth speak for itself.
“Be[ing] the result of all of your work, and chances are, people that are looking will find you.”
The actress, who detailed her recovery in her memoir unSweetined, has been sober since 2011. Reflecting on that journey, she credited everything from 12-step programs and therapy to simply gaining perspective with helping her get where she is today.
“It’s been such a journey — the work I did in 12-step programs, the work I did in outside programs and therapy and also just kind of growing up and, and perspective, you know, all of those things.”
More than a decade later, Sweetin said sobriety has given her the chance to discover who she really is.
“You get the opportunity to become a different person, and once you start actually liking that person, it becomes really hard to go back and continue destructive behavior,” she said.
Stamos, meanwhile, has also spoken candidly about his own recovery. In a 2023 interview with People, the actor revealed that after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Beverly Hills in 2015, he returned home from the hospital and “drank a bottle of wine just to forget what just happened.”
He later admitted he filmed My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 while “loosely buzzed” before ultimately checking into a 30-day substance abuse treatment program.
Speaking to Mayim Bialik that same year, Stamos recalled how deeply ashamed he felt during that period of his life.
“I hated it. I really hated the way I felt, hated disappointing people, hated myself, hated looking in the mirror, going, ‘This is not who my parents raised. What am I doing? Who is this idiot?'”
When Stamos honored Sweetin with the Experience, Strength and Hope Award in 2019, he thanked his longtime friend for allowing him to find recovery on his own terms after, as he put it, he “hit rock bottom.”
“Jodie lovingly allowed me to walk my own path and when I finally humbled myself to ask for your help, I realized that the perky little blabbermouth had become the master of wisdom and was right by my side during some of the most difficult days of my life,” he said, per Variety.
