Channing Frye, a member of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers championship team, recently weighed in with his thoughts on LeBron James‘ highly-publicized free agency process.
Frye said he believes James’ only two option are Cleveland and Miami. However, he feels the Cavaliers give The King a much better chance to compete for an NBA title in 2026-27.
Frye also said he’s been in contact with Cavaliers veteran James Harden, who sent a clear message about his team’s pursuit of James.
“Him and James Harden would be a pretty good matchup,” Frye said. “I even talked to James [Harden] the other night. He was like, ‘We’re just waiting on big fella.'”
If James were to join the Cavaliers’ roster as currently constructed, he would slot into the starting small forward position alongside Harden, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. This past season, Cleveland played its way to the Eastern Conference Finals — where the team ultimately suffered a series sweep at the hands of the eventual-champion New York Knicks.
In addition to the Cavaliers and Heat, the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves have also been reported as possible landing spots for James in free agency.
Earlier this week, James’ agent, Rich Paul, reiterated that there’s still no timetable for The King’s decision.
