It's been a quarter of a century since we all got our letters from Hogwarts and headed for Kings Cross Station on September 1st to board the Hogwarts Express for the long journey up to Scotland. And since then, the original film series has grown into one of cinema’s most enduring franchises, inspiring theme parks, games, stage productions and an upcoming television reboot but now, 25 years later, Warner Bros. Discovery is inviting fans back to where the journey began and it's filled with added magic.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, released internationally (and correctly) as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will return to theatres worldwide from August 27 through September 3 as part of the 2026 Back to Hogwarts celebrations. And what's more, it's going to include 12 minutes of exclusive behind-the-scenes footage making its theatrical debut. All eight Harry Potter films will also be available in cinemas during the one-week event, with tickets going on sale July 31.
The HBO ‘Harry Potter’ Series Will Be Previewed in London
This year’s Back to Hogwarts celebration, now an annual tradition, will also look towards the franchise’s future, with hype already building for HBO’s new television adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. HBO Max is hosting a one day fan event in the middle of London which will also include a special first look at the series, which premieres on Christmas Day. And it's important to note that, once again, there will be no official event, countdown or announcement at King’s Cross Station this year, while Warner Bros. have advised fans not to travel there.
Further live celebrations will take place in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, China, Australia and Japan, while Universal’s theme parks in Orlando, Hollywood, Japan and Beijing will also host anniversary experiences, and Warner Bros. Studio Tour London will feature special announcements, demonstrations and themed activities throughout September 1. The annual Back to Hogwarts Showcase will stream through the official Harry Potter YouTube and TikTok channels on September 1.
The film stars Daniel Radcliffe (The Woman in Black) as Harry Potter, Rupert Grint (Servant) as Ron Weasley, Emma Watson (Beauty and the Beast) as Hermione Granger, Richard Harris (Gladiator) as Albus Dumbledore, Maggie Smith(Downton Abbey) as Professor Minerva McGonagall, Robbie Coltrane (GoldenEye) as Rubeus Hagrid, Alan Rickman(Die Hard) as Professor Severus Snape, and Ian Hart (The Last Kingdom) as Professor Quirinus Quirrell.
