It's been a difficult few years to be a Blade fan. After Marvel Studios announced a new movie starring Mahershala Ali during San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, the project quickly became one of the MCU's most anticipated additions. Instead of ever making it to theaters, however, the project has spent years trapped in development, cycling through multiple directors and writers before eventually being removed from Disney's release calendar altogether. While Marvel has repeatedly insisted that the Daywalker still has a future on screen, concrete updates have been few and far between.
That uncertainty became even more apparent this week. During an appearance on Happy Sad Confused, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige admitted he feels like "a giant loser and failure" that the Blade reboot never came together, offering one of his most candid comments yet about the project's troubled development. It wasn't the kind of update fans had hoped to hear, especially during a week dominated by excitement surrounding the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer. Fortunately, Blade isn't being forgotten everywhere.
Marc Spector: Moon Knight #6 reunites Blade with Moon Knight before ending with an invitation that could reshape Marvel's supernatural corner. The issue, which is out on shelves today, recognizes that Blade is more than a guest star and positions him as the first recruit for what appears to be a brand-new Midnight Sons lineup, immediately restoring Blade to the kind of leadership role fans have wanted to see for years.
"When the brand of the Midnight Sons is lit, I will answer. Now and forever. It's as simple as that."
Blade Is Finally Back Where He Belongs
It's a fitting direction for the character. Blade has always been one of the defining members of the Midnight Sons, standing alongside heroes like Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, and Werewolf by Night whenever supernatural threats become too dangerous for traditional superhero teams. Despite that history, the team has largely sat dormant in recent years, making this recruitment feel like the beginning of something much larger, with Marvel making it clear that Blade will play a central role in whatever comes next. It's exactly the kind of spotlight the character has been missing.
Whether Marvel Studios eventually gets its Blade movie back on track remains to be seen. In the meantime, Marc Spector: Moon Knight #6 is a welcome reminder of why Blade became one of Marvel's most beloved supernatural heroes in the first place, and why he deserves to be at the center of the publisher's next supernatural saga.
