Revered filmmaker Guillermo del Toro provided his unique take on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein with his Oscar-winning adaptation that was released in theaters and on Netflix in 2025. One year later, a new cut of the monster movie is getting a special physical media release.
The Criterion Collection has confirmed the release of Frankenstein: The Reborn Cut, a 4K remastered version of the film that runs at 158 minutes long. That's nearly 10 minutes longer than the original cut that was released last year. The set also includes the theatrical cut for fans who want to see the alternate version in beautiful 4K UHD format. Along with the 4K UHD and Blu-ray set, regular Blu-ray and DVD versions are also available. They can be pre-ordered now at Criterion.com ahead of the actual release date on Oct. 27, 2026.
Many New Bonus Features Are Also Included
It wouldn't be complete without several bonus features. An audio commentary featuring del Toro himself will be a part of the extras, along with other bonuses that will take fans deeper into the making of the hit film. Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac Lead the Cast
Written and directed by del Toro, Frankenstein features Jacob Elordi (The Dog Stars, Euphoria) as the titular creature, while Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight, Dune) plays Baron Victor Frankenstein, the surgeon who brings the monster to life. The adaptation also stars Mia Goth (Infinity Pool), Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front), David Bradley (Game of Thrones), Lars Mikkelsen (Star Wars: Ahsoka), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Christoph Waltz (No Time to Die), and Ralph Ineson (The Fantastic Four: First Steps).
The film, per the synopsis, "imbues the classic tale with new depths of humanity while pushing it toward dazzling heights of gothic grandeur. Shifting between the perspectives of the brilliant but callous Victor Frankenstein (Isaac) and the creature (Elordi) he fashions from flesh and then cruelly mistreats, del Toro movingly reframes the legend as a story of fathers and sons struggling to break free from cycles of trauma. A decades-in-the-making triumph of darkly ravishing visual invention and operatic storytelling, Frankenstein is a deeply personal statement from a director who has long been drawn to the realm where men and monsters merge."
Frankenstein: The Reborn Cut will be released on Oct. 27, 2026.
