The Vampire Lestat boss gives thrilling season 4 update after season 3 finale

Interview with the Vampire / The Vampire Lestat may have just left fans with a massive cliffhanger at the end of Season 3, but showrunner Rolin Jones is already prepared to dish on the Anne Rice franchise's future. The series has not formally been renewed for Season 4 at this time.

In an interview with IGN, Jones reveals how the entire season of The Vampire Lestat was building to its epic cliffhanger. The finale episode, 'The Failures' sees a beheaded Lestat reflecting on his life, while Louis de Pointe du Lac also sits headless, staring as his own torso. "Just watching those two [stories] together, in theory, it's supposed to be bringing Lestat and Louis' journeys together," Jones shared.

Interview with the Vampire, which was retitled to The Vampire Lestat for its recent third season, hasn't gotten the greenlight for new episodes just yet - but Jones already has several ideas for two more seasons to come. "The savvy of this year was that title change which comes from marketing, so God bless them. I have no control over these things. I'm still just a typing monkey," Jones joked.

Jones continued: "What I would say is, the design for a potential Season 4 and a potential Season 5 started pretty deep into the shooting of Season 2 with me and [executive producer] Hannah [Moscovitch] walking around Prague, just talking – as we were going from editing to the stage – about, how would we do it?"

He also acknowledged there's plenty of material in Season 3 that wasn't shown on screen and needs to be revisited. "It's not just the concert," he said of The Vampire Lestat's Great Conversion. "There's a lot of stuff to revisit."

Anne Rice's The Queen of the Damned also came into conversation. "And if you know Queen of the Damned really well, it is a series of chapters of strict point of views. So, get ready, folks! This is part two," Jones teased of the untold parts of The Vampire Lestat's story.

As for what story threads fans might expect to see more of, Jones also had some answers. "And if there's stuff that might have frustrated you this year, relax. Everyone will want to comment on that last shot of Montreal, but it ain't just that.

"A lot of sh-- went down this year. And there's a couple of guys sitting in an auction room [...] They are not going at each other's throats. The puzzle will all come together given there's a Season 4."

The Vampire Lestat Star Talks Lestat & Louis's Future

In a recent interview with CBR's Rachel Leishman, Sam Reid — who portrays Lestat in the series — also spoke about the show's Season 3 ending. "He understands Louis, so I think there is a love there that will endure," Reid reflected.

Should the show get a Season 4 renewal like Jones plans, Reid believes that fans will get treated to even more of Louis and Lestat's romance. "That’s not to say there won’t be many things that come between them as time goes on," he added. "We’re telling a big story, and I think the push and pull of their romance is a major element of it."
