Released in the early 2020s, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury remains a notable entry in the legendary mecha anime franchise. Now, a model kit based on the anime is returning to U.S. shores two years after its initial debut.
The HG 1/144 GUNDAM LFRITH JIU is finally coming back, with this kit recreating one of the most unique designs from the corresponding series. It's specifically derived from a spinoff manga, showcasing just how much Bandai was pushing The Witch from Mercury at one point. Even coming with the mecha's iconic weapon accessory, this model kit's pre-order window is now open for the next few months.

Originally sold in the West in 2024, the HG 1/144 GUNDAM LFRITH JIU is a High Grade model kit that perfectly showcases the more lithe aesthetic of its particular continuity. This mecha debuted in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Vanadis Heart, a spinoff manga for the main Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury story.
Piloted by Kyuu Labot, the mobile suit has a somewhat asymmetrical design that extends from its primary weapon. This is the Tiger's Paw, with the massive shield-like arm extending its long-range attack capabilities. The first and second joints of the fingers can move independently, and as in the source material, it can be posed as if it's being fired like a missile (complete with rocket boosters on the arm). This accessory can also be carried on the back of the kit.
The areas surrounding the head and chest are cast in black, with optional foil stickers representing the mobile suit in its active and inactive states. The model kit is also incredibly dexterous and articulated, and a separate weapon display base makes it even easier to pose. Now available to pre-order through the Premium Bandai U.S. website for $24 until Oct. 16, it's expected to ship out to buyers sometime in November.
Running from 2022 to 2023, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury made headlines as the first mainline Gundam anime with a female main character. It's since gone on to receive various spinoff books and manga, including one that focuses more on the romance and other character relationships in the story.
