Chris Evans‘ return as Steve Rogers in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer has Marvel fans thrilled. Evans will reprise the role for the first time in seven years following 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Evans’s involvement in the film was first officially confirmed in Doomsday’s first teaser, released at the end of 2025.
What are Steve Rogers fans saying about the Chris Evans moment in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer?
The Avengers: Doomsday trailer ends with Thor meeting Rogers, with the latter summoning Mjolnir to prove that he has returned from retirement. Evans is seen sporting a beard not unlike his look from Avengers: Infinity War.
X user @POPin4k reposted the scene from the end of the trailer, praising Evans’ return. “OH HE LOOKS SO GOOD,” wrote the user.
Another user, @vladoku, wrote that they got “immediate chills” upon seeing Evans in the trailer. The user also wrote that “Marvel is really pulling out all the stops for Doomsday.” Bringing back Evans following the character’s ending has been a point of contention for many fans for a long time.
Other fans have also posted about how they have missed Steve being in the MCU. Following the character’s retirement, the role of Captain America was handed to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie. Last year’s Captain America: Brave New World followed Wilson filling in the shoes of Captain America, promising to build a new team of Avengers in its finale.
The film will see Steve Rogers and Thor lead a team of heroes from different universes, the New Avengers and the Fantastic Four. As seen in the trailer, the teams cross paths with the X-Men and Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr, who has a sinister plan for the multiverse.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.
