Former NFL player Ryan Clark was let go by ESPN due to Disney layoffs and, possibly, issues about his behavior.
On Monday, Clark was on air for a new episode of “NFL Live,” but he was informed mid-show that he was being fired.
According to an article by The Athletic, ESPN said it was mainly part of the Disney layoffs happening across the company.
But it turns out there could be another reason behind it: Clark’s behavioral issues. Particularly, the incident in which he had a heated exchange with colleague Peter Schrager on live TV.
The former one-time Super Bowl winner called out Schrager, saying, “That’s the non-player in you,” after Schrager defended the performance of Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Dallas lost that opening night game to the Philadelphia Eagles, and Schrager noted that Lamb still outperformed Eagles wideout A.J. Brown.
Clark immediately issued a public apology after the incident and appeared to have made peace with Schrager.
Aside from “NFL Live,” Clark also appeared on other ESPN shows like “Get Up,” “First Take,” “Monday Night Countdown” and “Sportscenter.”

Shortly after his professional career ended in 2014, Clark joined ESPN as an NFL Analyst in February 2015. He played for 13 years across three teams.
Even though he went undrafted in 2002, he signed with the New York Giants as a free agent. Clark then played with the Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers.
The one-time Pro Bowler flourished with Pittsburgh, where he suited up for eight seasons. This is where he also won his lone Super Bowl.
During his pro career, he racked up a career total of 644 solo tackles, five forced fumbles, 16 interceptions and broke up 54 passes.
Before ESPN dropped the axe on him, Clark still had one year remaining on his contract that he signed in February 2024. This contract negotiation also became a public saga.
