The latest release from the Dragon Ball Z franchise has revisited the first fusion of the Namekian character Piccolo, which granted the character a major power boost.
While Gogeta and Vegito stand out as the primary examples of fusion in the series, it was Piccolo who introduced viewers to the concept during the Namek Saga. In the anime’s first depiction of fusion, Piccolo merged with fellow Namekian Nail in line with the latter’s wishes. He then faced off against Frieza in his second form, temporarily overpowering him.
Now, more than 35 years after this fusion debuted, Banpresto’s Solid Edge Works -The Shutsujin- series has released a new figure of Piccolo modeled on the form he achieved after merging with Nail. It recreates the iconic moment from Dragon Ball Z Episode 80, right before Piccolo starts his fight against Frieza.
"This Piccolo figure, which captures his heroic pose as he rushed in to save Gohan and the others from a tight spot, is coming to the Solid Edge Works -The Shutsujin- series," the official website noted.

The figure depicts Piccolo staring menacingly with his arms folded while sporting his white cape and the trademark turban. The figure is made of dense PVC to give it a premium feel. Standing at 7.5 inches tall, this Piccolo release will only be available as Crane Game prizes across amusement centers in Japan.
However, third-party retail stores like Entertainment Earth will ship the figure for international audiences starting in September 2026 at a retail price of US$28.99.
Following his fusion, Piccolo rushes to the battlefield after sensing Gohan’s dwindling ki. Merging with Nail provided Piccolo with the latter’s experience and combat techniques, allowing him to have the upper hand while fighting Frieza and eventually pushing his opponent into unlocking his monstrous third form. While Piccolo was able to hold his own initially, he was outmatched by Frieza following the transformation.
This was not the only fusion that Piccolo underwent in the series, as he later merged with Kami during the Cell Saga. Namekian fusion is unique, as it differs from the Potara Earring fusion and the Fusion Dance by being permanent and having no time limit. It also does not alter the primary host's physical appearance or personality to reflect both participants, instead just giving the character a major power-up.
Interestingly, the Solid Edge Works series previously released a figure of Piccolo’s opponent, Frieza. However, that release had captured the character's Golden Form from the subsequent Dragon Ball Super.
The Dragon Ball franchise is currently undergoing a revival of sorts with new anime releases on the horizon. An enhanced edition of the series, titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, will release this year in the fall, while an anime adaptation covering the manga's Moro Saga, titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, has also been officially announced.
