Lego officially unveils the X-Files set ahead of reboot

X-Files fans rejoice. Lego has just unveiled a 1,478-piece The X-Files set featuring Mulder and Scully minifigures. The set includes eight mini-figures (Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, The Flukeman and a grey alien), an “I Want to Believe” poster, an “X-Files” dossier, “The Truth is Out There” tile and pencils in the ceiling of Mulder's office.

The set comes out on Aug. 4, but Lego Insiders Early Access members will be able to purchase the set on Aug. 1, three days before the official release date. And anyone who purchases the set between Aug. 1 and Aug. 10 will also receive “The X-Files: Scully’s Lab” bonus gift, which allows people to recreate details of the classroom lab at the FBI National Academy, adding a minifigure of Dana Scully in her lab coat and scrubs.

The X-Files Lego set was created by Australian fan designer and 3-D artist Brent Waller. He submitted the idea for the set for the Lego Ideas’ ‘90s Nostalgia Challenge in 2025, winning the Grand Prize. The Lego Ideas line allows users to submit ideas for products, and the ones with the most votes are then considered as official Lego sets.

“I was obsessed with The X-Files from the moment I first saw it in the ‘90s,” Waller said in a statement. “I originally built Mulder’s office back in 2014 while rewatching the series, and it grew from there as a personal project. I wanted to combine nostalgia, detail and storytelling to capture the atmosphere of the show.”

X-Files Star Gillian Anderson Partnered with Lego for the Reveal

X-Files star Gillian Anderson partnered with Lego to promote the set in a minute-long video in which she sets out on a mission that leads to the discovery of the Lego set. When she hears a knock at her hotel room door, Anderson gets up to check, finding a black box on the floor with no one else in sight. She brings the box inside, shuts the curtains and gets to work, treating the set like another one of her many investigations. In the final reveal, Anderson completes the set just before its pulled up into space. The promo ends with her saying, “No one is going to believe this.”

“Seeing myself in minifigure form is both surreal and oddly delightful — there’s something very charming about being ‘miniaturized,’” Anderson said in a statement. “The whole set is a brilliant celebration of The X-Files, which I hope fans enjoy revisiting in this way — I know I can’t wait to put tiny Scully on my shelf.”

The X-Files Lego Set Comes Out Ahead of the New Series

The timing for this Lego set couldn’t be better, as fans await Ryan Coogler’s (Sinners, Black Panther) X-Files reboot. While the show hasn’t yet been officially ordered to series, Hulu has ordered a pilot episode.

The series will star Himesh Patel (The Odyssey, Station Eleven) and Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson), playing characters that serve as replacements for David Duchovny’s Mulder and Gillian Anderson’s Scully, while the original characters have yet to be confirmed. Patel confirmed recently that the pilot episode has been completed, and they’re waiting to hear from Hulu whether or not the show has been picked up.

The original X-Files series is streaming on Hulu and Pluto TV. The Lego set will be available to all on Aug. 4 for $199.99.
