Tom Brady spent 23 NFL seasons building a reputation for cold precision and ruthless winning. Seven Super Bowls. Five Super Bowl MVPs. The most decorated quarterback career in the history of the sport.

In the five days between July 17 and July 19, 2026, he slapped Logan Paul on stage and flipped him off at the World Cup final. And now one of his loudest longtime supporters has had enough.

Dave Portnoy Tore into Tom Brady for Selling a Fight Nobody Asked For

The Brady-Logan Paul feud has been building since February, when Paul claimed on the Impaulsive podcast that his WWE career had made him as athletic as NFL players. Brady pushed back publicly, setting off months of promotional back-and-forth that ran through the Fanatics Flag Football Classic in Los Angeles in March. Then the two appeared on stage together at Fanatics Fest in New York on July 17. Brady slapped Paul in front of a live crowd, Karl-Anthony Towns stepped between them, and Brady later posted online that he had tried his best.

Two days later, sitting in adjacent suites at the FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium, they exchanged middle fingers while Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin sat between them.

Dave Portnoy addressed all of it on Monday’s episode of Wake Up Barstool and did not hold back. A longtime Boston sports fan who has called Brady the greatest player in Patriots history, Portnoy said the pattern had gone too far.

“The slap was awful. It was a fake slap. And then the bird, like, you can tell he’s smiling when he’s giving the bird. He’s a bad actor,” Portnoy said. He then directed his frustration at the man he sees behind the curtain. “It’s Michael Rubin. He’ll lamefy the coolest guys in the world. Every celebrity athlete is like, ‘Michael Rubin, how high do you want me to jump?’ And they jump.”

Portnoy connected the stunts to a broader pattern. He said it all started when Brady began distancing himself from the Patriots, calling the whole thing disgusting.

Former Raiders linebacker Will Compton echoed that confusion, saying he could not understand why Brady was doing any of it.

WWE Pipe Dream Is Only Reason Any of This Makes Sense

Brady told Fox News Digital at Fanatics Fest that he would consider stepping into a WWE ring as a heel. Rob Gronkowski has done it. Logan Paul does it full-time and draws massive pay-per-view numbers. The slap, the fingers, the luxury suite theatrics, they all point to a buildup. Michael Rubin runs Fanatics, which has deep ties to WWE.

Every staged confrontation generates millions of views across social platforms and drives conversation toward a match that would pay both men handsomely. The problem is that Brady is trading something no fake feud can make up for.

His name once stood for cold precision and ruthless winning. Now it is attached to middle fingers and YouTube beefs. Patriots fans watching from home do not see a heel turn. They see something worse. A man who used to carve up defenses on the biggest stage is now carving up his own credibility for clicks.
