Chelsea legend John Terry has thrown a subtle dig at Arsenal in a recent interview with Piers Morgan, after the Blues secured a £117m move for Morgan Rogers.

Arsenal had reportedly been interested in signing Morgan Rogers off the back of a brilliant season with Aston Villa, in which he bagged ten Premier League goals and six Premier League assists.

The 23-year-old also played a key role as Villa brought their 30-year trophy drought to an end, scoring his side’s third goal as they beat Freiburg to round off a memorable Europa League campaign.

While Arsenal had seemingly been in pole position to sign Rogers, the England international underwent a medical with Chelsea on Monday after returning from the World Cup, and has now put pen to paper for a seven-year deal.

Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Chelsea legend John Terry could not help himself in having some fun at Arsenal’s expense, whom Piers Morgan supports.

‘He’s obviously joined a club that has the potential of winning the Champions League and has a history of winning the Champions League, hence he’s gone for us over the red side of London, Piers,’ Terry joked.

On a more serious note, Terry said he understood why Rogers chose the Blues over Arsenal, saying: ‘To be honest, if you’re him, you’d have probably gone to Arsenal, so the numbers must have been pretty big. But I’m excited to have him; I think he’s a good player.

‘I think he’s going to give us better than what we’ve got at the moment. I think he’s a good addition to the squad and I’m actually excited to see him.’

In his first interview with Chelsea’s in-house media team, Rogers described his new club as ‘the biggest club in London’ and claimed that the most important factor of his decision was the presence of new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso.
