Big Scary Doberman Hilariously Faces Off With a Small Kitten Over His Bed and Immediately Regrets It

The standoff gets real quick.

Diesel the Doberman has one tiny problem. His bed, the one he loves sleeping in and stitched with his name, isn't vacant. A little kitty, named Lucy, has already claimed his bed, and she's making it very clear that she doesn't intend to give it back.

Diesel's mom, Hanny Thomas, shared a clip of every stage of the negotiation to Facebook. The funny standoff has pet lovers laughing as it bucks every stereotype you may have of Dobermans.

You may expect to see a fearless guard dog throwing his weight around to reclaim what's rightfully his. Instead, Diesel tries politely protesting, whining, and even making what his mom described as a "siren sound."

He Tried Everything, But Lucy Was Not Giving Up

Diesel starts with a gentle approach, nudging Lucy with his nose. It's like he is saying, "Excuse me! That's my spot."

But Lucy isn't having it. Instead, she responds by pawing at Diesel's muzzle in an effort to get him to back up. He's going to have to do better if he wants his bed back.

Then things get interesting. Diesel starts whining, sitting at a respectful distance and making his case verbally — but his pleas seem to fall on deaf ears.

The Comments Turned Into a Support Group for Dogs

Thousands of viewers couldn't help sharing stories from their own homes.

One person wrote, "My beagle ends up in the cat bed, which is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen." Another admitted, "My Doberman just lays on my cat."

Another described a similar situation, saying, "After trying to negotiate with the cat and fail, my dog sat down in spite of the cat."

But the funniest comment summed up the video perfectly, saying, “Yep, big bad Doberman bested by a 6 lb kitty!"

According to Thomas, Diesel has to settle for Lucy's bed.

The good news for Diesel is that Lucy isn't a permanent resident. Lucy is Thomas' niece's cat, and she'll be taking her home soon.

Why Dogs Lose This Argument

Pet parents living with dogs and cats know this situation all too well. Cats often claim space with a confidence that most dogs simply cannot match.

Dogs, unlike cats, read social signals and adjust their behavior accordingly. If a dog faces a cat that is not backing down, they can either push harder and escalate, or back off and let the cat win. Diesel tried to protest, but he, too, eventually backed off.

Sometimes, the smallest pet is the one that makes the rules.
